Projects

Projects in the works:

Hull:

For the 2016 International Submarine Races we are designing and building a brand new hull. This hull will be made out of fibber glass and modeled after the body of the Albacore Tuna. It will have a large nose cone on the front that also acts as the hatch for the pilot to enter and exit the sub.

Steering:

Our senior team are designing an autopilot system to steer and maintain the depth of the sub for the pilot during the race. While our main team are making mechanical back-ups systems and fins that can be put into the hull if needed.

Propulsion:

A new lighter open housed gearbox is being designed along with a potential linear gearbox all of witch will increase the efficiency of the system and reduce it’s weight.

A new propeller is also in the research and development stage along with new methods of getting better data so we can engineer the best propeller design and get the most power and speed out of our new sub.

Safety:

Safety is a high priority of the FAU Human Powered Submarine Team. So a new compact and simple Emergency Pop-Up Buoy is being made. Along with a better harness, tank holder, and towing system for the strobe marking light.
